Sclerotherapy

mymd-sclerotherapy.png

Sclerotherapy is an injectable treatment for spider veins of the legs, which is a common condition. Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution (generally a salt solution) directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the blood vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. The procedure takes 30 minutes and involves inspection of the legs to see the extent of spider veins. The main areas of concern are focused upon, but more extensive areas can be treated if time permits.

The patient will be required to purchase compression stocking(s) to bring with them to the procedure. After the procedure, the compression stocking(s) will be applied to the leg(s) treated, and need(s) to be worn for 48hrs continuously. Thereafter, the stocking(s) only need to be worn during the daytime, whilst upright, for 2 weeks. Most people require a minimum of 2 treatments for the total elimination of the spider veins. These treatments can be administered 4-6 weeks apart.
